La vida en Singapura! (Parte 1)

The first time I ever set foot in the Lion City, I knew one thing: I never wanted to leave! And when I'm asked why, I have a ready answer. Coming from (having been born and raised) a third world country, everything the small city state has to offer is all I ever want in life. Disciplined citizens, low crime rate, clean and less polluted environment, what more can I ask for?

One of the HDB communities in Sembawang, Singapore
I stayed with a friend living in posh Pasir Panjang area in the west. I initially planned my itinerary for my 7-day escapade but I ended up staying at home most of the time. I opted to roam around the neighborhood and appreciate the surroundings. One can go walking while texting without the fear of someone snatching your phone. People are not at all surprised seeing a foreigner (FYI 40% of the population are from other countries) and they speak English complete with their accent.

Banyan Condominium- where I stayed for a good number of days
Upon observation, there are two common types of housing in Singapura: condominium and HDB. The former is widely-known while the latter is the government-owned sans the gym, pool and security the condo enjoys. Think of our very own BLISS- only better, cleaner and safer. The late dictator Marcos and Singapore's Lee Kuan Yew started the HDB idea envisioning that after a couple of years, it would become the staple housing of their citizens. In the Philippines, we only had few. Very few.

Talking about housing, accommodation and stuff, I was very fortunate to spend a night at a 5-star hotel where a good friend was working. Indeed the best things in life are free!

Conrad Centennial Singapore is one of the best!

For my next entry, will go around Singapura. Too lazy to continue.
